Dr. Georg Schoen is one of Europe’s leading experts in urology and robot-assisted surgery, with more than 35 years of clinical experience. He completed his medical studies at the University of Regensburg and the Technical University of Munich, developing extensive expertise in minimally invasive and robotic surgery of the urinary tract throughout his distinguished career.
Recognized as a pioneer in modern surgical techniques for the treatment of bladder, kidney, and retroperitoneal diseases, Dr. Schoen has made a significant contribution to the development of robotic urology in Europe. Since 2024, he has been a member of the medical team at the International Medical Center Priora, where he performs highly complex robotic urological procedures.
Biography:
Dr. Schoen was born in Waldmünchen, Bavaria, Germany. He studied medicine at the University of Regensburg and the Technical University of Munich.
He began his medical career at the Medical Mission Clinic in Würzburg, where he worked as a Senior Physician from 1984 to 1998. He then became Head of the Department of Urology at the Hospital in Hof before serving as Head of the Department of Urology in Würzburg from 2002 to 2019.
In 2020, he focused his work on the advancement of robotic surgery and became Head of Robotic Surgery at the Urological Clinic Munich Planegg. From 2021 to 2023, he led the Robotic Surgery Program at Franziskus Hospital in Berlin. Since 2024, he has brought his extensive international experience to the International Medical Center Priora in Croatia.
Throughout his professional career, Dr. Schoen has completed advanced training at leading medical centers in the United States. As a visiting surgeon and proctor, he has trained physicians across Scandinavia, the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, Austria, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland. Since 2015, he has served as a Masterclass Trainer at IRCAD training centers in Strasbourg, Vienna, Berlin, Amsterdam, and Stockholm, educating urologists in robotic surgery.
Achievements:
Dr. Schoen is one of Europe’s most experienced robotic urological surgeons, having performed more than 3,000 robot-assisted radical prostatectomies and over 1,500 robot-assisted partial nephrectomies. He has played an important role in developing standards for the extraperitoneal approach in robot-assisted surgery, techniques that are now widely adopted in numerous European centers.
He is the author of nine book chapters and has delivered numerous scientific lectures, presentations, and posters at national and international conferences. He has produced 25 educational surgical videos included in the media libraries of the German Society of Urology (DGU) and the European Association of Urology (EAU). His educational surgical films have received six awards from the German Society of Urology.
Dr. Schoen regularly performs live surgeries at international scientific meetings and is actively involved in training surgeons throughout Europe. He has also gained valuable humanitarian experience by performing complex fistula reconstruction surgeries in Ghana.
He is a member of several prestigious professional organizations, including the German Society of Urology (DGU), the German Society for Robot-Assisted Urology (DGRU), the American Urological Association (AUA), the Bavarian-Austrian Urological Association, as well as the humanitarian organizations Doctors for Africa and German Rotary Volunteer Doctors.
In his daily practice, Dr. Schoen is committed to applying the latest surgical techniques while providing an individualized approach to every patient. He places particular emphasis on patient safety, preservation of urinary tract function, and rapid postoperative recovery, while continuously advancing surgical education and mentoring future generations of urologists.
