Assoc. Prof. Borna Kovačić, MD, PhD

He graduated from the University of Zagreb School of Medicine, having completed his medical studies in Osijek. He subsequently completed his medical internship and residency in general surgery at Osijek University Hospital. In 2011, he completed a subspecialization in abdominal surgery, and in 2013 he obtained his PhD through the postgraduate program in biomedicine and health sciences at the University of Zagreb and Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek. Since 2024, he has held the academic title of Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek.

Throughout his career, he has continuously pursued professional training at leading surgical centers in the United States and numerous European countries, including France, Italy, Austria, Slovenia, Germany, Bulgaria and Russia. His particular areas of interest include minimally invasive and laparoscopic surgery of the digestive system, colorectal surgery, hernia surgery, hepatobiliary surgery and bariatric surgery.

As a lecturer and educator, he is actively involved in the training of young surgeons and regularly organizes and leads courses in laparoscopic surgery, colorectal surgery and hernia surgery at Osijek University Hospital.

His clinical practice encompasses the surgical treatment of diseases of the esophagus, stomach, small and large intestine, liver, pancreas and biliary system, as well as hernias, hemorrhoids and other conditions affecting the abdominal wall. He places particular emphasis on the use of contemporary minimally invasive surgical techniques, which can facilitate safer procedures, reduce postoperative pain and support faster patient recovery.

Since 2026, he has been collaborating with IMC Priora as a member of its abdominal surgery team, providing specialist consultations and surgical treatment using contemporary minimally invasive techniques.
