In an interview for Glas Slavonije, the Director of the International Medical Center Priora, Tomislav Kalem, MD, MSc, reflected on the first two years of the hospital’s operation in Čepin, the development of its key departments, and Priora’s growing presence on the Croatian and international medical map.

Glas Slavonije on the development of IMC Priora and the vision of a modern hospital in Čepin

Since its opening, IMC Priora has positioned itself as a modern hospital bringing together leading experts from Croatia and abroad while providing comprehensive, high-quality medical care to its patients. In addition to surgical departments such as urology, gynecology, orthopedics, and plastic surgery, the center also includes important specialties, including cardiology, pulmonology, gastroenterology, laboratory medicine, and a scientific unit.

Patients come to Priora not only from Croatia but also from many other countries, while the hospital simultaneously attracts physicians from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Hungary, and Slovenia. This combination of international experience, high professional standards, and modern care organization is one of the key drivers of its rapid growth.

Robotic surgery, international experts, and cutting-edge technology

The interview also highlighted the development of robotic surgery. The first operations in Croatia performed with the Da Vinci robotic system were carried out at Priora, marking an important step forward in modern surgical practice in the country. Today, this technology is used in urology and gynecology, offering numerous benefits for patients, including greater precision, less bleeding, and faster recovery.

In addition to the Da Vinci system, Priora also uses advanced technologies, such as the Mona Lisa Dx Biobot system for precise prostate biopsy, as well as modern laboratory and diagnostic solutions that enable fast, reliable clinical decision-making.

Focus on accessibility and further development with Da Vinci

In the interview for Glas Slavonije, further development plans were also highlighted, including expanding the medical team, strengthening orthopedics, physiotherapy, and diagnostic services, and improving patient accessibility through the Priora outpatient clinic in Zagreb.

IMC Priora continues to build its position as a center that combines top-level medical expertise, international collaboration, and advanced technology—confirming that Čepin is increasingly becoming an important hub of robotic surgery and modern healthcare.
