Artificial knee implantation

Artificial knee replacement – when and why it is needed

The implantation of an artificial knee (endoprosthesis) is performed in patients with advanced damage to the knee joint, most often caused by arthrosis, injuries or degenerative changes. The main goal of the procedure is to eliminate pain, restore mobility and improve the quality of life.

The knee consists of three basic parts – the inner (medial), outer (lateral) and the joint between the cup (patella) and the knee itself. Depending on which part of the joint is most damaged, a total or partial endoprosthesis is implanted. In a total endoprosthesis, all joint surfaces are replaced, while in a partial endoprosthesis, only the damaged part is replaced, and the rest of the natural knee is preserved, thus maintaining the natural stability and function of the joint.

As part of orthopedics, Dr. Ivan Karlak applies modern surgical techniques and minimally invasive approaches, including robotics, which allows for exceptional precision and safety of the procedure. Patients recover faster, with less postoperative pain and a shorter hospital stay.

Endoprostheses made of high-quality materials have a long lifespan – often more than 20 years – while proper care and physical therapy further prolong the functionality and mobility of the joint.

Knee endoprosthesis – fast recovery and long-lasting results

After recovery, patients can return to daily activities and recreational sports, such as walking, running, tennis or skiing. With a sense of stability and pain-free, they can once again enjoy hobbies, walks, travel and socializing, which significantly contributes to mental and physical health.

Implantation of an artificial knee is therefore an effective and safe method of restoring joint function, enabling an active and pain-free life and providing patients with long-term quality of life and independence in daily activities.
