Plastic, Esthetic, Reconstructive and Hand Surgery
Dr. Igor Smiljanić is a specialist in plastic, esthetic, and reconstructive surgery with extensive clinical and international experience. Through his expertise, results, and use of state-of-the-art medical technologies, he provides patients with safety and the highest standard of professional care. He is known for his precision, professionalism, and dedication to every individual patient.
Dr. Smiljanić graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Novi Sad in 1994. After completing his medical internship in England (St. Thomas Hospital) and in Sombor, he began his professional career at the Health Center “Dr Radivoj Simonović” in Sombor, working in the emergency surgical service. He started his specialization in plastic and reconstructive surgery in 1996 and completed it in 2002 at the same university. During his residency, he trained at several leading clinics, including the Clinic for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery of the Clinical Center of Vojvodina in Novi Sad, the Military Medical Academy in Belgrade, and the Clinical Center “Bežanijska kosa.”
Since 2002, Dr. Smiljanić has been employed at the General Hospital “Dr Radivoj Simonović” in Sombor, Department of Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery, where he served as department head until 2014. In 2004, he founded the private specialist practice “Smiljanić,” later expanding it into a polyclinic, and in 2019 into the Special Hospital for Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery “MI.” Since 2008, he has been a member of the Executive Board of the Serbian Association of Plastic Surgeons (SRBPRAS).
Dr. Smiljanić is also a member of the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive, Aesthetic, and Hand Surgery at the International Medical Center Priora.
Dr. Smiljanić continuously advances his professional knowledge and skills through numerous international courses, congresses, and postgraduate programs in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery. He completed advanced microsurgery training in Timișoara, Innsbruck, and Munich (under Prof. Dr. Milomir Ninković). He received further education at leading institutions worldwide, including the Clinic for Plastic, Reconstructive, Hand, and Burn Surgery in Munich under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. Milomir Ninković, Emory University Medical Center in Atlanta (Drs. Foad and Farzad Nahai), Duke University Medical Center in North Carolina, the University of Southern California in Los Angeles (Prof. Milan Stevanović), and Innsbruck University in Austria.
As an instructor and lecturer, he has participated in numerous international microsurgery courses, actively contributing to the education of younger colleagues and advancing the profession in the region.
He is a member of several national and international professional associations, including the Serbian Medical Society, (SRBPRAS), the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), the International Confederation for Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (IPRAS), the European Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (ESPRAS), the Balkan Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (BAPRAS), and the Croatian Society for Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery.
In his work, Dr. Smiljanić combines extensive experience, precision, and the application of modern technological advances to provide patients with superior, safe, and individualized medical care. He is married to Gordana and has a daughter, Isidora. He speaks English fluently.
