Hundreds of successful surgeries over three decades speak volumes about the expertise of Prof. Milomir Ninković. Prof. Ninković – a world-renowned surgeon from Čepin shares insights on modern nreast reconstruction techniques
Bilateral mastectomies, or complete breast removal, are on the rise worldwide. According to Professor Ninković, the reasons vary – from genetic predisposition, fear of cancer recurrence, and environmental influences, to personal preferences. Although the number of unilateral mastectomies is decreasing in some regions due to more accessible screening and treatment, the surgeon emphasizes that in many cases it is better to perform a mastectomy with immediate or delayed reconstruction than to leave a breast deformed after breast-conserving surgery and radiation.
“Today’s techniques of reconstruction with the patient’s tissue provide the breast with a natural shape and consistency, making it difficult to tell it has been reconstructed,” says Prof. Ninković, Head of the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Esthetic Surgery, as well as Hand Surgery, at IMC Priora.

The operation lasted an astonishing 18 hours and 20 minutes, entering surgical history as one of the longest and most demanding procedures of its time.
