“Images from a Pilgrimage” is the title of a photography exhibition by Prof. Fabijan Knežević, MD, PhD, presented at IMC Priora. The photographs were taken in May 2019 during a pilgrimage to Assisi, Rome, and Monte Cassino, organized by the Catholic University of Croatia.

Bijeli galerijski zid s dvoredno izloženim uokvirenim fotografijama Vatikana: bazilika, mnoštvo vjernika, vitraji i kip s aureolom.

„Motiv mi je bio zabilježiti umjetničku ljepotu s kojom se hodočasnik susreće na takvom putovanju“, kaže autor Knežević.

Art in a healthcare environment

At a time that brings us closer to Easter, a holiday of hope, renewal, and inner peace, these photographs go beyond mere documentation; they capture deeper experiences, emotions, and the silence that such places evoke within us.

The exhibition gains additional value from being set within a hospital environment, where art takes on a new dimension, reminding us of the importance of inner strength, peace, and inspiration.

An author bridging medicine and art

Fabijan Knežević was born in 1953 in Zagreb. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, specialized in pathology, and earned a PhD. For many years, he served as the head of the Department of Pathology at the Institute for Tumors in Zagreb. He served as Head of the Department of Pathology and Cytology at University Hospital “Sveti Duh”.

Art has always played an important role in his life. He has been engaged in painting, printmaking, and sculpture since his student days, with more than 15 solo exhibitions to his credit.

“Art is not an escape from the demanding work of a pathologist, because I also enjoy pathology; good pathology and good medicine are forms of true art,” emphasizes Knežević.

He is a member of the Croatian Medical Chamber, the Croatian Medical Association, and the Croatian Association of Visual Artists. In retirement, he remains active as Head of the Department of Pathology at the Faculty of Medicine of the Catholic University of Croatia and continues to work as a pathologist in Zagreb.
