Cervical Cancer: The Importance of Prevention and Regular Gynecological Check-ups

Get in touch

Every year, around 300 women in Croatia are diagnosed with cervical cancer, and approximately 120 lose their battle with this disease. These figures have remained consistent for the past decade, highlighting a significant public health issue that requires continuous education and prevention.

Unlike most other cancer types, cervical cancer tends to occur at a younger age – it is the third most common cancer among women aged 30 to 39, following breast and thyroid cancer, according to the Croatian Institute of Public Health.

Cervical Cancer – January Dedicated to Prevention

January is traditionally dedicated to raising awareness about cervical cancer prevention, both nationally and across Europe. The goal is to encourage women to protect their reproductive health, emphasize the importance of regular gynecological examinations, and educate about prevention methods and risk factors.

Regular Pap tests, HPV vaccination, and timely medical check-ups are key steps in the early detection and successful treatment of this disease, which is entirely curable if detected early.

Cervical Cancer – Expert Insight

Why cervical cancer affects younger women and how crucial prevention is was explained by Dr. Dimitrije Milojković, Head of the Gynecology Clinic at IMC Priora, in an interview for Večernji list.

“This disease is almost always linked to HPV infection, and early detection and treatment of precancerous changes save lives. Regular gynecological check-ups and HPV testing are the foundation of successful prevention,” emphasized Dr. Milojković.

At IMC Priora, modern gynecological care focuses on prevention, early diagnosis, and timely treatment, ensuring women receive the highest standard of reproductive health protection.
