Surgery at IMC Priora restored hand function after years of struggle
Mirza Kahriman from Sarajevo has lived his entire life with dystrophic bullous epidermolysis, a rare genetic disorder that makes the skin incredibly fragile and prone to blistering and wounds. Due to long-term damage, the fingers on his hands had almost completely fused, severely limiting his ability to move and perform daily tasks. After numerous unsuccessful surgeries, he finally found a solution at the International Medical Center Priora in Čepin near Osijek, where world-renowned plastic surgeon Prof. Dr. Milomir Ninković operated.
Bullous Epidermolysis – a success story thanks to the IMC Priora team and Prof. Milomir Ninković
The procedure at IMC Priora was an actual turning point. Prof. Ninković applied an innovative reconstructive technique using a muscle and fatty tissue graft, which allowed successful separation of the fingers and complete healing without complications. Mirza praised the professionalism and care of the entire medical team, noting how every step was carefully adapted to his extremely sensitive skin.
Following the surgery, recovery exceeded all expectations – the donor site healed within just one week, and Mirza’s hand regained its function. Today, he can once again use his hand for daily activities and even drive a car, describing it as a symbol of regained independence and freedom.
This inspiring story shows how expertise and empathy can genuinely transform the life of a patient living with a rare disease.
