Specialist in Orthopaedics, Subspecialist in Traumatology
Marko Džapo, MD, was born on 3 January 1985 in Osijek. He is a specialist in orthopaedics and a subspecialist in traumatology, with a focus on the diagnosis and treatment of conditions and sports injuries of the ankle and foot. He is an expert in arthroscopic and minimally invasive surgical techniques, for which he is recognised throughout the region. He joined the IMC Priora team at the beginning of 2026 as an external associate.
After graduating from the private high school “Gaudeamus” in Osijek in 2003, he graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in Osijek in 2010, obtaining the academic title of Doctor of Medicine. He completed his internship in 2011 at University Hospital Centre Osijek (KBC Osijek). He undertook his residency training in orthopaedics and traumatology from 2011 to 2015 at the Vukovar County General Hospital, the University Hospital Centre Osijek, and the Clinic for Orthopaedics and Traumatology in Lovran. He passed the specialist orthopaedic exam in 2015 and, in the same year, began working as an orthopaedic specialist at Vukovar County General Hospital. In his spare time, he is actively involved in sports. He holds a black belt (1st Dan) in Shotokan karate, a blue belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and plays tennis recreationally. He passed the subspecialist exam in musculoskeletal traumatology in 2019.
He continually advances his expertise in orthopaedics and traumatology, with a particular emphasis on foot and ankle pathology, including arthroscopy, reconstructive procedures, and minimally invasive surgery. He has participated in numerous international courses and congresses, including the AO course “Operative Fracture Management” in Davos (2011), arthroscopy training in knee and shoulder surgery (Rijeka, 2013), and additional training at the private specialty orthopaedic hospital “Dr. Nemec” (2015), with an emphasis on knee and ankle arthroscopy and operative foot reconstruction.
In the field of foot and ankle surgery, he has completed several specialised programs, including the Amsterdam Foot and Ankle Platform – Ankle Arthroscopy Course (Amsterdam, 2017; Prof. C. N. van Dijk), EFAS & IFFAS World Foot and Ankle Congress (Lisbon, 2017), the Foot & Ankle course at University Hospital Centre Zagreb (Šalata, 2018), GRECMIP minimally invasive foot and ankle surgery courses (Madrid, 2018 and 2019), the AO Foundation Foot & Ankle cadaveric course (Graz, 2018), and an advanced ankle arthroscopy course (Barcelona, 2019).
Additionally, he completed training in regional anaesthesia for orthopaedic surgery (NYSORA) with a visit to the orthopaedic department in Genk, Belgium (2019), a musculoskeletal ultrasound course (Zagreb, 2020), a course on ultrasound-guided hyaluronic acid injections (Valencia, 2023), attended the World Congress of Minimally Invasive Foot and Ankle Surgery (Rio de Janeiro, 2023), and completed an orthobiologics course (use of ACP/PRP in orthopaedics) organised by Arthrex (Munich, 2024). In 2025, he completed an advanced course on ankle arthroscopy techniques focusing on sports ankle injuries and attended the congress on minimally invasive foot and ankle surgery (Barcelona, November 2025).
