When conservative treatments no longer help, the solution increasingly comes from modern endoprosthetics \u2013 <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.priora.eu\/en\/treatments\/orthopaedic\/artificial-knee-replacement\/\">artificial knee replacement<\/a><\/strong>, which restores mobility and quality of life to patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Total or partial knee endoprosthesis<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhen we talk about knee endoprosthetics, it is important to note that the knee is not a single joint but consists of three main parts \u2013 the medial (inner), lateral (outer), and the joint between the patella (kneecap) and the femur,\u201d explains <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.priora.eu\/en\/team\/7401\/\" data-type=\"team\" data-id=\"7401\">Dr. Ivan Karlak<\/a><\/strong>, orthopaedic surgeon, traumatologist, and Head of the Orthopaedic Department at<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/priora.eu\"> IMC Priora<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Depending on which part is most damaged, the type of <strong>endoprosthesis<\/strong> is chosen. If all three parts are worn out, a total knee endoprosthesis is implanted, replacing all joint surfaces. In cases where only one part is damaged \u2013 the inner, outer, or the joint between the kneecap and the femur \u2013 a<strong> partial endoprosthesi<\/strong>s can be used instead.<br><br>\u201cThe great advantage of the knee joint,\u201d adds Dr. Karlak, \u201cis that with partial endoprosthesis most of the natural joint structures are preserved, and only the worn-out part of the joint is replaced.\u201d When comparing total knee replacement to hip replacement surgery, rehabilitation after knee surgery tends to be slightly more demanding. \u201cHowever,\u201d Dr. Karlak notes, \u201cthanks to <strong>modern endoprosthesis<\/strong> <strong>designs<\/strong> and a<strong>dvanced surgical techniques<\/strong>, especially robotic-assisted procedures, postoperative pain and recovery time have been significantly reduced, while patient satisfaction is notably higher.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/www.priora.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/dr.-Ivan-Karlak-ortopedija-2-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Lije\u010dnik u bijeloj kuti pregledava pacijenticu koja le\u017ei na stolu.\" class=\"wp-image-7587\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Life After Artificial Knee Replacement<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just like with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.priora.eu\/en\/treatments\/orthopaedic\/hip-endoprosthesis\/\">artificial hip<\/a><\/strong> replacement, knee endoprostheses provide a long-term solution \u2013 often lasting more than twenty years.<br><br>\u201cPatients with an artificial knee cannot engage in professional sports,\u201d says Dr. Karlak, \u201cbut they can easily take part in recreational activities such as <strong>brisk walking<\/strong>, <strong>jogging<\/strong>, <strong>doubles tennis<\/strong>, and even <strong>skiing<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thanks to <strong>advancements in materials<\/strong>, <strong>precision in implantation<\/strong>, and a <strong>personalized approach<\/strong> to each patient, the quality of life after knee replacement surgery is significantly improved today compared to a decade ago.
