Head of the Department of Plastic Surgery at IMC Priora, Prof. Milomir Ninkovi\u0107, MD, PhD, delivered an inspiring lecture at the DBL Summit in Zagreb, the region\u2019s largest conference dedicated to the business side of healthcare.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe can go through life without ever discovering our full potential. It can happen to any of us. What do we need to do to discover our potential? I believe the first step is to discover ourselves, our abilities and our talents. For example, perhaps I could have become an excellent football player and had talent like Messi, but I never had the opportunity, nor did I try. That is why you should keep trying, especially when you are young. But there are also many examples of people who discovered themselves and their abilities much later in life.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With these thoughts, renowned plastic surgeon Prof. Milomir Ninkovi\u0107, MD, PhD<\/a><\/strong>, Head of the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery and Hand Surgery at IMC Priora, began his recent lecture at the DBL Summit<\/a><\/strong> in Zagreb<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prof. Milomir Ninkovi\u0107 on Excellence, Knowledge and Personal Growth<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The DBL Summit is the region\u2019s largest conference dedicated to the business side of healthcare. It brings together doctors, dentists and private practice owners who, alongside clinical excellence, want to develop the business skills that directly influence the success of their practices. Through two days of lectures, workshops and networking, participants gain business knowledge rarely covered in medical education, including how to manage a practice, lead a team and develop a successful healthcare business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor Ninkovi\u0107\u2019s lecture was titled \u201cCreate the Life You Deserve.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf you manage to build a life that truly feels like your own, that is what I would call success. You will not simply find the life you want. You can create it<\/strong>,\u201d said one of the world\u2019s most respected plastic surgeons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most people, he explained, eventually find their comfort zone and stop making the choices that could lead them towards their dreams. Life is not a matter of luck, he added. Life is a matter of choice.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhen we were building the hospital in \u010cepin, I introduced the slogan \u2018Excellence is our priority.\u2019<\/strong> It matters because it motivates people,\u201d Professor Ninkovi\u0107 said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Without dreams and goals, he emphasised, there can be no success, but our dreams must also be aligned with our abilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI never imagined that I, someone who came from Sarajevo, would one day become one of the leading plastic surgeons in the world. Today, I work at a hospital in \u010cepin, and doctors from the United States, from the renowned Mayo Clinic, come to learn from me. Our region is home to many highly intelligent and capable people. You must continue to grow through knowledge, ambition and creativity<\/strong>,\u201d he emphasised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Career Marked by Innovation in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Professor Ninkovi\u0107 presented several of the most remarkable surgical procedures and innovative techniques he has developed and refined throughout his career. Among them was the world\u2019s first bilateral hand transplantation from a deceased donor<\/strong>, performed in 2000 on an Austrian police officer who had been injured in a bomb explosion, helping him regain his quality of life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first single hand transplantation from a deceased donor was performed in Lyon in 1998. The team in Innsbruck went one step further two years later, performing the world\u2019s first bilateral hand transplantation from a deceased donor<\/strong>. The operation became an international surgical milestone, with results that exceeded even the injured police officer\u2019s expectations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two years after the transplantation, Theo Kelz travelled 9,600 kilometres by motorcycle to the North Pole<\/strong>, and continued working as a police officer until his official retirement in 2014.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Career Dedicated to Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Milomir Ninkovi\u0107 was born in Sarajevo, where he also graduated from medical school. As a scholarship recipient, he studied microsurgical techniques and reconstructive principles under the renowned Marko Godina in Ljubljana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In September 1992, he joined the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Medical University of Innsbruck, where he completed his doctorate three years later. He remained in Innsbruck until November 2003 before continuing his career in Germany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For two decades, he headed one of Germany\u2019s largest departments of plastic surgery<\/strong> at Bogenhausen Hospital, part of Munich Clinic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He is also one of the driving forces behind IMC Priora in \u010cepin<\/a><\/strong>, where he now shares his extensive experience with colleagues at the private hospital in the heart of Slavonia.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
