A boy\u2019s journey from Iraq to surgery in \u010cepin<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When everything is added up, the boy Abdullah Ahmad travelled at least 15,000 kilometres<\/strong> to reach Prof. Milomir Ninkovi\u0107<\/a><\/strong>, who operated on his hand, enabled a more normal childhood<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due to a birth trauma, the boy grew up with paralysis<\/strong> of his arm and limitations that prevented him from enjoying play with his peers. Abdullah is nine years old and was born in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq. His parents learned last year that Professor Ninkovi\u0107, one of the world\u2019s leading plastic surgeons<\/strong>, could help him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abdullah Ahmad and the story of restoring hand function<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

They first travelled from Baghdad to Munich and knocked on the door of the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Hand Surgery and Burn Treatment at Bogenhausen Hospital, where Professor Ninkovi\u0107 had spent two decades as head of the department. They were not aware that this renowned plastic surgeon had moved at the end of 2023 to the International Medical Center Priora<\/a><\/strong> in \u010cepin near Osijek, where he leads the Department of Plastic, Esthetic<\/a><\/strong> and<\/a><\/strong> Reconstructive Surgery<\/a><\/strong> and Hand Surgery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guided by the desire to improve their son\u2019s quality of life, his parents decided to travel to the small town of \u010cepin<\/strong>. \u201cI feel very well,\u201d the boy says before returning home after the surgery performed under the guidance of Professor Milomir Ninkovi\u0107. \u201cI am looking forward to playing football and swimming,\u201d he adds cheerfully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His hand condition deprived him of a carefree childhood with his friends<\/strong>. \u201cIt is a birth trauma involving an injury to the brachial nerve plexus in the neck region, resulting in loss of innervation of all the arm muscles,\u201d explains Prof. Dr. sc. Milomir Ninkovi\u0107. The surgery will improve the function of the entire arm and hand and thereby enable a more normal life<\/strong>. \u201cI am very grateful to Professor Ninkovi\u0107 and the nurses,\u201d says Abdullah Ahmad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
